WHAT IS THE AVERAGE LIFESPAN OF SAND IN A POOL FILTER?
As water is pushed through the filter, the sand inside the filter catches the debris & particles that were in the water. Over time, the sand in the filter will fill in with such particles & begin to harden. If the sand does not get chemically cleaned at least once a season, then the sand will begin to harden & become cement-like. Sand that is cleaned every year can last up to 10-15 years. Sand that is not cleaned at all might only last 3-5 years. Vacuuming a lot of larger debris up with the filter set to “WASTE” can also help to extend the life of your sand.
